Investing in your memories.

Photography is more than just pointing a camera at a subject and pushing a button. It's about seeing a moment and capturing it in a way that freezes that moment in time. I want you to look back on your images for years to come and be reminded of how you felt in that moment. I want to take you back to the feeling of adventure on an engagement session hike, the multitude of emotions you had when walking down the isle to your new husband, the way it felt to become parents. There are so many defining moments in your life. Let me help you document them. What story can I tell for you?

How long have you been photographing?
The moment my parents handed me a camera I was hooked. Through the years I learned a lot and finally decided to turn my passion into a living. I've been photographing professionally since 2010, and weddings since 2012-ish. I began this venture with no intention of focusing on weddings. Now I can't get enough. I love capturing love stories and watching relationships grow. The most amazing thing to me is when my couples continue to come to me once they start a family so I can capture more memories for them.
I've never really had my picture taken before I don't know what to expect.
If you have never been in front of a camera before it can be pretty intimidating. But don't let that discourage you. Most of my clients aren't used to posing and acting natural in front of the camera and that's perfectly ok. It will likely take a few minutes and poses to "warm" up. I usually tell my clients to ignore me for a few moments saying I am getting my setting straight, which I am, but I also watch their natural movements. I then ease them into different poses. Many of my instructions will have you not looking directly at me. I love the look of a more natural looking posed shot. But we will mix it up and have fun! Most importantly, be you. Have fun with it and laugh and be silly. This is particularly true for Engagement and Couple sessions. I can't express how amazing it will be if you interact with each other naturally and make each other smile. If you have any concerns or questions at all please ask...I want to help in any way I can.
How would you describe your style?
I am laid back and photojournalistic. Coming from a more shy and introverted personality I am an observer. When you hire me to be your wedding photographer I hope that it feels like I am just a friend hanging out with a camera. I capture candid and unique moments that are YOURS, not something you found off of Pinterest. I have a love|hate relationship with Pinterest. I think it's wonderful for inspiration and I will gladly look at your favorites, however I believe in taking that inspiration and mixing it with the true essence of YOUR day, not someone else's. I deliver a mixture of bright and colorful images + B&W. Some photos simply tell the story better in B&W.
When can I expect to see my photos?
This depends on a few things. Portrait sessions generally take 2 weeks to get back to you. This includes engagement, family, senior, newborn etc. Weddings I generally take 30 days to get you your full gallery. With all sessions, the time of year and the amount of work I have will determine how close I stay to that goal. In peak wedding season it's likely that things could take a little longer. I don't like to keep my clients waiting more than I have to and sometimes I even amaze myself and get your photos back sooner than promised. I also ask about "sneak peeks" and can generally share a glimpse with you within the first 2 days after a session or wedding. Everyone loves a little bit of instant gratification.
What kind of camera do you use?
I currently shoot with a Nikon D750 & D3s. My trusty D7000 serves as my back up for my back up as well as my every day camera for personal adventures. My most used lenses are: 35mm 1.4 | 50mm 1.4 | 85mm 1.8 | 70-200mm 2.8 I also have a very large collection of novelty and film cameras I use to keep the creative juices flowing.
Do you have insurance?
Yes I carry business liability insurance through State Farm.
What should I wear for our session?
Ah the wardrobe. I wish I could be a stylist as well. But honestly I am horrible at picking out clothes. I see something I like and can recreate it, which is awesome. But without knowing your style I won't be much help. So my suggestion is think simple with pops of color. I urge against the "matchy" look for family sessions. It's outdated and unless it is done very tastefully, it will look cheesy. Think coordinating colors. I will try to get some examples of people who nailed their wardrobe for their session as reference. If it's a large family pick 2 or 3 colors that go well together, and tell each person to pick a color. You can add color with accessories like scarves or shoes. Ladies, lipstick looks great in pictures. Keep it comfortable and not too far out of your normal style (unless that's what you prefer to do). And I hate to say this but look on Pinterest. It's great for putting a vision to what's in your head. Again, I have a love|hate relationship with Pinterest. It's a great tool to use for inspiration, but can easily make things overwhelming. Use it sparingly.
Do you offer wedding packages without an engagement session?
You can opt not to take advantage of this complimentary session, but it won't change the price of your package. I offer these as a way for my clients and I to get to know one another in a photographic environment. Photographing people interacting is different than having a meeting over coffee and talking about your wedding plans. I want to see how you interact with each other and observe your chemistry. Not only does it benefit me, but if you have never been photographed before it will act as a practice run for your wedding day formals. It's a win/win!!
